Fitness coach grandmother, 63, shares bikini pictures taken 40 years apart to show she looks better than ever thanks to years of training

A former fitness world champion grandmother has shared pictures of herself in a bikini 40 years apart, and looks better than ever thanks to an intense fitness regime. 

Lesley Maxwell, 63, from Melbourne, shared a photograph of herself at age 23 posing in a bikini and recreated the shot in March appearing in equally good shape. 

The celebrity fitness coach has 27,000 followers on her Instagram account where she posts pictures of her ripped physique alongside inspirational well-being tips. 

Lesley, who has received more than 30 figure competition titles, owes her ageless looks to her intense fitness regime which involves working out five times a week alongside a healthy diet.

“We can create and maintain a younger body whatever age we are,” said Lesley. “It’s all about how we look after ourselves. Clean nourishing food and effective exercise is the key. And it feels great, everyone can do it.”

Lesley began her bodybuilding journey during her her late 40s after coming across a TV advertisement for a fitness competition. Following this, Lesley decided to become a personal trainer at the age of 48 and won her first fitness competition a year later. Since then, the 63-year-old has won almost 30 fitness titles under her belt for her ripped physique. 

Lesley explained how she avoids diets and instead focuses on eating nutrient-dense food which is high in protein and saturated fats.

According to the Mayo Clinic, you need a reduction of 500 to 750 calories a day through diet and exercise to lose 1.5 pounds a week. It should also be noted that having goals is good, but being too specific in them is one of the ways you’re sabotaging your workout, so it is important to realize that not every exercise or routine works the same way for everyone. The Active Times consulted Stephanie Mansour, health and fitness expert and host of “Step It Up with Steph,” which airs weekend mornings on PBS stations nationwide, to help us put together a comprehensive list of the all-time best exercises for weight loss. We also consulted Harvard Medical School’s guidelines to determine how many calories are burned during some of these routines and gathered information from other popular fitness trainers and the American Council on Exercise for tips on how to do some of the movements properly to get the most out of your workout.
